The staff of Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Allenberry Summer Conservatory, a weeklong program designed for students ages 11-18. Sessions will be held August 10-15 and August 17-22, 2008.
Recognized for both its production quality and rich history by Life Magazine, the governor of Pennsylvania and countless tourism bureaus and dramatic publishing houses, Allenberry Playhouse, located “on the Yellow Breeches” in Boiling Springs, PA, has been hailed as a cultural treasure, both in our Central Pennsylvania backyard and on a national level, for over 60 years. We are thrilled to welcome our first class of aspiring thespians to our family this summer, and can’t wait to share our knowledge with them!
Among the teaching artists is Claude Giroux, Artistic Director of Allenberry Playhouse. This is Claude’s third season at Allenberry, and he’s directed The Full Monty, The Mousetrap, Run For Your Wife and Oklahoma, among others. Before his tenure here, Claude served as Artistic Director for Theatre New Brunswick in Fredricton, New Brunswick, Canada and Playhouse Merced in Merced, California. Claude is joined by Artistic Manager Roque Berlanga, a California native whose training venues include the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and Second City. Allenberry’s Resident Choreographer, Michelle O’Bryan, is also a member of the Resident Acting Company, and has appeared in and choreographed Into The Woods, The Boyfriend, The Full Monty and many more. Technical Director and Production Manager Jesse Gaffney will share her knowledge with the students – she’s worked as a props artisan at Stages St. Louis and as Assistant Technical Director at Arron Rock Lycaeum.
Students will learn about all aspects of production from the aforementioned talented and energetic staff of theatre professionals at Allenberry’s idyllic, 57-acre facility. While working alongside our resident company and guest mentors, students will be immersed in acting, singing, stage combat, and many different types of dance. In addition to the performance-based instruction, students will learn about set, property and costume construction as well as lighting and sound. Students will directly apply what they’ve learned in class to mount their own production, which will be presented for friends and family on the final day of the conservatory. Students are lodged right on Allenberry’s beautiful property, and not only will they receive room, board, and top-notch theatrical education; but they will also enjoy all the amenities that Allenberry has to offer, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and Har-Tru tennis courts, and fly fishing on the Yellow Breeches. Parents can enjoy these perks as well, and are free to enjoy the resort while the students finish their Thursday and Friday classes. |
