Allenberry Playhouse and Conservatory 2012 Local Auditions

Artistic Director: Roque Berlanga

Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse is a 57 acre full service resort, just 3 hours from NYC, and 2 hours from Philadelphia. Allenberry Playhouse seats 360 with the new Black Box seating 75.

Allenberry is currently accepting submissions and will have a local casting call by appointment for all parts in their upcoming 2012 season.

2012 Season includes: Forever Plaid, Honky Tonk Angels and Nunsense (in REP), The Sound of Music, Chicago, Smokey Joe's Cafe, The 39 Steps, Annual Christmas Show, and annual Murder Mystery Weekend.

Auditions will be held at Allenberry Playhouse in The Players Studio, which is across from The Stone Lodge and behind the Theatre on January 28, 2012 from 10am to 5pm with a dance callback in the evening. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue, 16 bars of an up tempo song and be prepared to move.

Contracts are available for all parts. We provide excellent non-equity pay which includes housing, food, and company cars.

We will also be looking at AEA (Guest Artist Contracts available pending approval)

Technical Director

Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse is a 57 acre full service resort, just 3 hours from NYC, and 2 hours from Philadelphia. Allenberry Playhouse seats 360 with a fully equipped scene shop, costume shop, and rehearsal studio.

Allenberry Playhouse is currently looking for a technical director for our 2012 season. Responsibilities of our technical director include cost estimating, purchasing materials, building and installation of sets and props, managing a scenic budget for each production, shop maintenance, and managing the strike and load in of each production.  A successful candidate will have strong organizational, time management, leadership skills, and function well in a fast paced atmosphere. The candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience and have a strong proficiency in AutoCAD and manual drafting, carpentry, welding, rigging, and scenic construction techniques. Our 2012 season includes Forever Plaid, Honky Tonk and Nunsense (In rep), The Sound of Music, Chicago, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, The 39 Steps, our annual Christmas show, and Murder Mystery.

Position includes housing and two meals per day, Tuesday-Sunday.

Costume Designer

Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse is a 57 acre full service resort, just 3 hours from NYC, and 2 hours from Philadelphia. Allenberry Playhouse seats 360 with a fully equipped scene shop, costume shop, and rehearsal studio.

Allenberry Playhouse is currently looking for a Costume Designer for our 2012 season. Responsibilities of our costume designer include the design and execution of costumes in each show, working within the given budget, and working within given production deadlines and timelines. A successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, time management skills, and function well in a fast paced atmosphere. The candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience and have strong building and sewing skills as well as wig experience. Our 2012 season includes Forever Plaid, Honky Tonk and Nunsense (In rep), The Sound of Music, Chicago, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, The 39 Steps, our annual Christmas show, and Murder Mystery.

Lighting Designer

Allenberry Playhouse is currently looking for a Lighting Designer for our 2012 season. Responsibilities of our lighting designer include the design of lighting plots, writing and documenting of cues, working within the given budget, working within given production deadlines and timelines, and participating in the strike and load in of each show. A successful candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, communication skills, and function well in a fast paced atmosphere. The candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience, be proficient with the ETC Element, and have strong understanding of lighting design, plot construction, and modification techniques. Our 2012 season includes Forever Plaid, Honky Tonk and Nunsense (In rep), The Sound of Music, Chicago, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, The 39 Steps, our annual Christmas show, and Murder Mystery.

Stage Management Apprentice

The Allenberry Playhouse is searching for a costume shop apprentice for the 2012 season! The apprentice will have to opportunity to work for a repertory theater in a small shop setting with professional designers. He/she will gain experience by assisting in the build and maintenance of 7 mainstage shows, as well as shows with the Allenberry Professional Theater Conservatory. Design, assistant design, and leadership opportunities are available to the right candidate. Apprentice candidates should have good sewing skills, the energy and stamina for long days and a professional attitude as well as being self-motivated. Above all the apprentice should work well with others and have a desire to learn and grow as an artist.

Scenic/Carpentry Apprentice

Our Scenic and Carpentry apprentice is an essential part of Allenberry Playhouse. Their time, talent and skill enhance our quality. Expect to be challenged by a creative process that relies on both resourcefulness and collaboration. Applicants should be highly motivated individuals who have acquired basic training in the arts and are looking to explore their field further through hands-on experience. The general technician apprentice reports to and works with the Technical Director/ Master Carpenter while participating in the preparation and execution of our season. The apprentice assists in all aspects of production including carpentry, paint, while focusing on carpentry. Qualified candidate may have design opportunities.

Paint/Prop Apprentice

Applicants should be highly motivated individuals who have acquired basic training in the arts and are looking to explore their field further through hands-on experience. The paint and properties apprentice reports to and works with the Lead Scenic Artist/Properties master. The apprentice assists in all aspects of production while focusing on properties and painting. Qualified candidate may have the opportunity to function as Lead Scenic Artist, Property Master, or Scenic Designer on one of our season productions.

Sound/Lighting Apprentice

The Sound and Lighting Apprentice is responsible for assisting the Sound designer and Master Electrician with production duties. The Sound/Lighting Apprentice is part of a collaborative team and will work with the Artistic Staff and other Production Personnel. This position is an educational position for recent college graduates starting fresh in the field and will include training in all matters of Sound Design and Lighting Design. Opportunities for Professional Lighting and Sound Designs will be available based on experience and they will be designing for the Allenberry Professional Theater Conservatory. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Mic technician, electrician and cable runner, sound board operator, house manager, assist with repertory change over, etc.

Master Electrician

Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse is a 57 acre full service resort, just 3 hours from NYC, and 2 hours from Philadelphia. Allenberry Playhouse seats 360 with a fully equipped scene shop, costume shop, and rehearsal studio.

Our 2012 season includes Honky Tonk and Nunsense (In rep), The Sound of Music, Chicago, Smokey Joe's Cafe, The 39 Steps, our annual Christmas show, and Murder Mystery. The Master Electrician is responsible for the realization of the lighting design for the production. Working in concert with Artistic Staff and other Production Personnel, the Master Electrician is part of a collaborative team. The M.E. will be present for all production meetings to consult on design implementation questions, consult with the Lighting Designer on overall scope of show, facilities, or materials issues and provide estimates as needed. Opportunities in Professional Lighting Design will be available based on experience and the M.E. will be designing for the Allenberry Professional Theater Conservatory. Other responsibilities include: spot light operator, maintaining the lighting inventory, lamp inventory, placing gel orders, cutting gel for plots, hanging/circuiting/focusing during tech, daily dimmer check, cleaning equipment, wiring practicals, etc.

At least 1 year of experience with ETC Lighting Consoles required (ETC Element preferred).
