“…a drama of light and amusing character, typically with a happy ending.”

Allenberry’s founding director, Richard North Gage, strongly believed in giving audiences what they wanted…to laugh.

More than 300 of Allenberry’s productions can be labeled as a “comedy.” That does not include “comedy/drama,” “mystery/comedy,” “musical comedy” or “farce” — all of which may bring a smile to your face or a belly laugh to your spirit, but are not pure comedy.

Among the most popular are Under the Yum Yum Tree, Strange Bedfellows, The Pursuit of Happiness, Private Lives, Papa Is All, The Odd Couple, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Life with Father, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Hasty Heart, Come Blow Your Horn, Born Yesterday, Barefoot in the Park, and Arsenic and Old Lace — each have been produced at least three times.

Farce

“…a light dramatic composition marked by broadly satirical comedy and improbable plot. Broad humor.”

Silly, fast-paced, outrageous stories which require superb timing and skill to perform — farces account for over forty Allenberry productions.

Allenberry has produced marvelous farces over the years including Charlie’s Aunt; Natalie Needs a Nightie; Not Now, Darling; Pajama Tops and Right Bed, Wrong Husband. But no show of any type has been produced more often at Allenberry than Cyrus Wood’s Ladies’ Night in a Turkish Bath.

There have been five productions to date, dating back more than thirty years. Allenberry’s fiftieth Anniversary production of this audience-pleasing farce will firmly establish it as the all-time champion.
